I mean any sort of cutting the curved area of the wheel opening.

well sure.. if you're running stock size tires under the flares...
go wider and you start running tires into the fender lip on compression--- the whole point in needing flares.

Weird, being that I've installed widebody and not cut the arc of the wheel opening any, yet had nowhere for the tire to touch.

Like Matt said, it depends on spring compression and width of tire and offset you are running....

I am going from a 17x9 +20 which fits perfectly with a roll to a 18x10 +15. I am pretty sure I am going to rub especially with subframe risers and a s14 subframe.... Just depends on setup.

Matt: How would I calculate the cut needed? Do I cut at the lip or cut at on the fender?

          Thanks for you rhelp.

No, it does not, like I said I've done it, the tire was within a few mm of the edge of the overfender on its inside edge, and to full compression to the point that the RUCA contacted the frame rail.

Like I said, cutting the arc of the wheel opening is not necessary, point blank no if's and's or butts, cutting it has been repeated because someone who didn't know any better did it, and everyone on zilvia followed.

              1. pull your rear shock and remove the spring.
              2. put new wheel & tire on the car.
              3. jack up rear suspension until it bottoms out or tire starts hitting the fender.
              4. if tire hits the fender, then measure amount of travel left in suspension, 4a. trim away material enough so you don't rub at compression + 1/4" (just in case).

if it doesn't rub at full compression, then you're good- no trimming necessary. If it does rub, then Z28ricer is WRONG and needs to be flogged with a wet rice noodle. :P

I didn't say no modification was necessary, I said that cutting the arc of the wheel opening different is not.

Hope Jason doesn't mind me linking to his post, I just remember following his thread when he was doing this. You can see his tire would have definitely hit the fender arch if it wasn't cut for clearance. No need for ricer name calling here.

Again, there is no need for the curve of the wheel cutout to change shape, yes I'm well aware that more clearance is needed, the point that you can't seem to grasp is that a chunk cut out of the quarter panel isn't necessary, and requires more work than what is required.

And that's a fender flare, not an over fender.

I've had lots of rubbing in the back with a "tiny" 255/40-17 on a 17x9 +19 (or +17?) I think it was wheel. This is with a solid 35-40 mm "pull" all the way around the top of the fenders. It as contacting about 2" up the fenderwell where it starts coming way in. Loud as hell in a 90 mph 4th gear corner with your foot the floor and I'm sure smoke coming off the tire.

Mine does that with 245/40/17 Hoosiers too... full throttle into T7 at TWS and the car is bottomed out.. I can hear stuff scraping inside front and rear wheel wells, but at least fender clearance is good.

17x9 +35s in the rear cleared it up for me completely. No issues in T7. Although I think I only pull up to about 110-112 mph before going through there now, which is a might squirrelly without aero I might add. GT2871R would have me arriving at about 130, which required a brush of the brakes if I didn't want to see what was on the other side of the berm!
