Which is lighter/better for an S13 hood?
What companies make the best and affordable ones.
Any facts or opinions are welcome.
The FRP ends up being lighter because the way the carbon fiber parts are made. The Carbon parts are made with Fiberglass and then a layer or two of carbon.
It's not a matter of quality either as Seibon's FRP doors weigh ~2-3 pounds less than their carbon counterparts if I remember correctly.
I plan on getting something simple, OEM style with flare at the end from ebay. I don't need any venting really.
Mike, whichever hood you decide to go with... and as long as its for a non-silvia front and cost effective, then plan on ordering two to save shipping costs .
Perhaps not the greatest example but I went from a VIS carbon fiber hood which was lighter than stock to a Chargespeed FRP hood which is even lighter still. FWIW the Chargespeed hood does feel a bit "thinner" so that probably has something to do with it.

Ah, I forgot about this hood, that thing is sexy! So is their kit and overfenders.
Well, except for the part about the filter getting full of rainwater.........

they make really good and light hoods. Not cheap, but not to when you think how well those are made. Civic EK bonnet was about 2,5kg. Can see throught at carbon, bonnet is only carbon and frame fiber.
I like that Stout hood for an S13 but the language on the site is a BIG problem for me. Do they have an english site? Unless there is a North American distributor the shipping might be a problem as well.
Personally I like a stock looking hood. Chargespeed doesn't make that hood for flip ups.
The Stout hood vent doesn't seem to stick up so it's even better but the language barrier is huge.
I am looking to get rid of the flip ups but want to keep the look. Not sure what my options are. I may make my own. I'm wanting something that has lexan in close to the original shape with the light recessed. Then color the lexan to match the car as much as possible.
