  • We Might have Affordable VE cam options!

Delta camshaft offer cam regrinds and cam welds and will carve a cam from a forging or billet.

It cost varies from $70-$170(grind vs weld and grind)

They will make a cam based on requested specs.

Is there anyone near WA is willing to bring they're head by delta to let them check to see if this an option for the VE community?

I just realized my post sounds like an ad. Lol.

I'm in Md so shipping to WA is kinda crazy although it was only $40 to ship my block north 400+ miles through ups.

Son, I'm not letting someone take an angle grinder to my cams.

But srsly, you guys really considering regrinds? You'll have to reshim the lifters, so there goes any cost difference to big boy factory cams. I don't see it...

I'm not interested... I honestly don't like the idea of grinding a factory cam. I'll buy P12's or Kelford's when the time comes.

In some case thicker shims are needed. Ie the ga16de welds beautifully so shim aren't need.

They needed to check clearances and make sure there won't be issues with vvl actuation. I will happily throw my cams in the mail for testing if this process is feasible.

Why has this been coming up so frequently? Seems like the P11 cams work quite well and anything further gets into the realm of diminishing returns quite rapidly.

I think P11 cams are the way to go with a small GT28xx turbo. Any more overlap is likely not going to yield too much.

I think bigger cams will start giving pretty good sized gains up top with a bigger turbo that can move more than 45 lb/min of air and has a reasonably sized turbine.

I would never bother with welded or reground cams when you have factory cam options which are pretty damn cheap. A welded cam very rarely gets up to the same surface hardness as a factory case hardened cam, even with a proper heat treatment (which is rarely done due to the metallurgy "questions" that are hard to answer when you're just welding some filler rod to a cam).

How much for some VE billets from them? I have been looking for a place to get some billets to give to WEBcam in Riverside CA to do some grinds on. Hard welding and grinding the stock cam gets pricey and you have to reshim. On a side note JWT might be making cams for the VE some time late this year. It's just a rumor I saw on G20.net so not too sure about it.
