  • Is GC safe to order a kit from?

So from reading Richard's threads in the damper section, it looks like all of you that ordered assembled coilovers had long wait times simply because of GC. From what I gathered, it appears that GC is bitchy about ordering separate parts rather than a "kit". I was looking into this kit:

    http://www.ground-control-store.com/...hp/II=73/CA=27

It looks fine... Although, I wanted to hear some experience when buying a "kit" lke this. How did GC do as far as ordering a complete kit like this? And I should be able to say (650lb/in, 7" tall spring in front; 550lb/in, 7" tall spring in rear) in the "desired spring rate" box. I also wanted to ensure that the tophat will fit an 8611 damper so long as I select Koni for the shock manufacturer...

Any input is appreciated as long as there is information behind your opinion.

I'd call them up and see what they say. $10 says Jay is a complete ass if you talk about modifying the "kit" too much, but it's worth a try.

The spring hat would just need to be their standard "flat" 22mm ID Koni strut hat front and rear.

The last time I ordered from them, I requested specific spring rates in a specific length. I also paid for overnight shipping because I needed the parts by that Friday. I told the guy on the phone this. They shipped them the following Tuesday (after the friday that I needed them) and still charged me for overnight shipping. They also shipped the incorrect springs, and refused to ship the correct springs until I returned the springs that they had shipped me. It took three attempts at getting the correct springs before I finally just gave up and found them used.

That was six years ago, maybe they're better now? I won't be finding out anytime soon.

Well I just sent them an email. I would call, but I'm on deployment. I am guessing the "koni" selection is a standard 22mm ID flat top hat? I'll just ask when/if I get a reply...

Apparently they stock all types of ERS springs, so I fail to see why it would be an issue... I simply asked if I could have two 0700.250.0650 springs and two 0700.250.0550. I suppose if I get a good vibe from them, I will try ordering from them...

Def, what is your setup as far as springs, tophats, perches, and where did you get them?

I ordered from GC, different spring rates was all I asked for 450/350

            I got 425/275

YMMV but I will never buy from them again. You can either piece together a setup from Koni hardware at Summit racing or used circle track stuff from ebay.

I have a used GC setup, but am going to end up likely getting some Hypercoil springs up front with Vorshlag spring hats. The rear will have some aluminum spring couplers I made and H&R tender springs. Hopefully the 380 lb/in springs I already have will work out back there, but it remains to be seen.

I am going to look around on Summit today. I would really like to avoid any douchbaggery if I can...

It seems like you would have to go out of your way to give people the wrong **** when it's mail order crap you are selling (springs). I mean, all you do is match up numbers and put the ****ing part in a box...
