  • Track tire size for S13

Trying to determine the best track\autox tire size for my s13. Will be running 15x7 +0 wheels. I normally run 205/55/15 on the 15x7's and 225/50/15 on my set of 15x8's street wheels. Most R compound tires that I find are either 205/50/15 or 225/45/15. Which would be best for the 15x7's? Is 225/45 too much tire?

225/45 is very common on 15x7 in IT classes. Some are also available in 225/50. I prefered the 225/45 since it's a shorter tire and I had the gearing right for it.

225 is actually considered to be a bit wide for 7" wide wheel in 15's. You'll want 8" minimum for a 225, and preferably 9". The car will feel better (transitions, turn in, more responsive) on the 205's with a 7" wheel. Modern tires like some stretch.

On my 16x8" wheels running 225/50-16's always worked very nicely from a size standpoint.

Definitely 205/50-15 or 205/55-15 on 15x7's. 225/45's need at least 7.5", and that's even tight, while 8" is really better.

I'd go with whatever size gets you pretty cheap tires like 205/50, 205/55, 205/60. Any will work really.

205/50 is Spec Miata tires. You should be able to find these easy.

For what it's worth, I ran the 16x6.5 S14 stockers for a little bit. I did one auto-x with them and with the 5.0 swap they were unbearable. The slightest throttle (motor rated for 215Hp stock, so maybe ~160hp to the wheels?) would cause a spin and not enough grip in the front to help catch it.

Right now I'm running 245/45/17 on a set of 17x9 RPF1's with +22 offset. The tires themselves are Maxxis with 430 treadwear so not a performance tire by any mean, but the extra tire definitely helps. Plus, all I did was a mild fender roll and no scrubbing to speak.
