  • Differential oil filter

Looking at running a diff cooler and figured I'd put a filter inline. Would a regular oil filter work? A tranny filter? Any suggestions on a housing and common filter???

If you want to use a filter, use a steel mesh filter with a magnet in it. diff is a pretty well sealed unit so you shouldn't need a filter, BUT if the diff is on its way out, you will get shrapnel into the pump and cooler, so you would be better off with a filter upstream from the pump to ensure clean oil into the pump.

that said, I don't ever see one on rear diffs at the races. remember how thick gear oil is and think about straining that through a filter.
