  • Weight Difference: S13 Silvia vs. USDM Front End

    Hey guys,

I am picking up a JDM Silvia front end conversion tomorrow night to replace
my horrid dented up front end and had a question regarding weight differences on the two front ends.

I know the it should save some weight since since the pop-up lights look to be a little beefy. Does anyone know the exact weight that should be save from switching from the usdm to silvia front end?

Pop up motors are 40lbs iirc, but I'm not sure if thats together or each (I'd assume together)

That's together, and might include the light assemblies as well.

For some reason I seem to remember 35 pounds being the total difference if you changed the bumper beam too. That was like 6 years ago though. I also recall someone stating that Silvia fenders are actually made from thinner gauge steel than US fenders, too.
She's built like a Steakhouse, but she handles like a Bistro.

The bumper beam is not going to be coming with the front end that I am picking up. I have read that you can use the USDM bumper beam, but it will need to be modified. So I'll have to do some research on that.

And about 20 pounds of iron. I know the buckets are beefy, but I find that number hard to believe.

no one mentioned how much lighter the Silvia hood is compared to the 240sx hood. OMG! Half the weight i'd say?

              Is it not metal?

no, they are metal. It is just that they are made way lighter.

Then you'd be saying the stock 240SX hood is 102lbs.

My Silvia hood hovered at 51 pounds, if I remember correctly. I seriously doubt the 240SX hood weighs more than 60.

I've heard 41lbs as the difference between Silvia and Chuki, as far as total weight difference.
