Subframe Question

I just finished installing SPL conversion bushings to fit an S14 subframe into a S13. There is one problem. Apparently the scribe marks weren't lined up perfect enough so it isn't a smooth fit onto the studs. I have to hammer just a bit to get the front right bushing to slide over the thicker portion of the stud. So my question is, will this little bit of load being placed on the stud cause an issue?

They fit like crap even with the scribe marks dead nuts on. They really needed a fillet on the top of the bushing since they were "half machined," i.e. they were deburred AT ALL. Mine were not going up before I hand deburred them very thoroughly then greased up my subframe studs. Took two jacks and the back of the car being lifted up before I got it "just right" and it went on. I don't even want to think of the preload on the studs....


Took me about 2.5 hrs of messing with them to finally get the subframe seated up against the car.

Mine installed easy peasy. One jack and 2 other friends. Put some wd40 on the studs and it went right on. Took maybe 20min.

Yup, I know. As I posted, my car isn't 100% SM legal as a result.

I shouldn't beat you anyway on 245 a6s haha. The subframe doesn't make up for lack of driver.

Is there anything we can do to the stiffen the subframe bushings to keep them legal in SM? I've got collars, already but I'am not sure how effective they are.

As long as we don't repostion the subframe I suppose we could fab up some spacers to go in-between the chassis & subframe, which would effectively solid mount it.

There are other places that make solid subframe mounts instead of just the spacers. that where you're trying to go with that?

I can't run an "offset subframe bushing", they are "stricktly forbidden". In order to fit an s14 subframe onto a s13 the bushing holes need to be offset.
My thought is that some shims, or spacers that effectively solid mount the subframe in conjuction with the O.E. mounts, but not relocate the subrame should be legal.

You can't use 'offset mounts', but you can swap subframes? I assume you're citing update/backdate rules for the subframe change?

In club racing, if they allow one mod (subframe swap for instance), they must allow you the offset mounts required to install it.

the better question is, who's ever gonna know? beat them all to ****, paint over it with 99 cent spray bomb, throw dirt on the wet paint, and claim it looks stock.

Here's a picture of my S14 subframe installation into an S13. As mentioned, the offset bushings aren't legal for my SCCA class. I left the OEM bushings in place and installed them with some of those urethane locking collars. It wouldn't work with metal collars but the urethane ones will conform. I notice a few squeeks when I'm moving slowly but it doesn't move enough to leave detectable marks around the bushings or collars.
