  • Are S13 and S14 KADE bellhousings the same?

bought a dog box the other day and need to make a bellhousing adapter to fit the car...

I would *ASSUME* all of the bellhousing bolt patterns are the same, but want to check before I start cutting.

that said, anyone have a dead KA tranny and want to sell a bellhousing for cheap? as long as the bellhousing itself is intact, it's fine. bearing or shaft damage doesn't matter.. it's going to be chopped off a couple inches away from the front of the case and have an adapter plate welded onto it to fit the new tranny.

Yeah, the only difference is that s14 has a spot for crank angle sensor and s13 does not.

      Ahhh k.
I remember that bastard. I broke it the first time I tried to pull the tranny cause I didn't know it was there.
That's easy enough to drill and mount I guess.

then again, a quick search online says that sensor just makes the OBD-II happy and doesn't actually make the car run. since I have no cats or rear O2 sensor, my CEL is on all the time anyway so I don't care.

Yup, it's not needed to run, just throws CEL.

I've got a bellhousing, but shipping could be costly. I'll measure it up and see if I can get a quote, though.

on second thought, I've got an S13 tranny that sat outside for a couple months without a shifter. It's probably full of water, which means the guts are trash.
I'll take a look at it when I get off this rig.

I also might be sending the bellhousing to some guy in Washington. I'm goign to see if my local race shop can do the fab work necessary. If not, then I'll send it to Ken since he's done these for KAs before and quoted me a nice price. (after shipping all over the planet it may not be so nice though...)

On an unrelated note; it sounds like you should pull your CEL bulb.

I'm not worried about the bulb.. don't know what I'm doing with the engine in the future since class rules are so volatile, so I'm just going to keep driving it the way it is. 110k miles on the engine so far and I rev that bitch to the rev limiter every shift. it's going to die one of these days!

What kind of dog box did you end up with?

G Force GF4A. ld have preferred a 5 spd, but I can change the gearing on this and have an overdrive as needed. (just install an overdrive 3rd gear and flip the shift lever for 3/4 so 3 becomes 1:1 and 4th is overdrive)

You can't overdrive a 5 spd. well not safely/easily anyway. you can overdrive 4th, but then you'd have to shift from 3rd to 5th to 4th. not practical.

I've got a manual ka bellhousing...but in all reality you're probably looking for more along the lines of an auto bell right? if it is the manual one you're looking for...like I said I have it. 865-604-9443. $20 you pay shipping. (since I can get roughly $20 recycling the aluminum)

I've got a spare core S13 tranny here too. I threw away (recycled) an auto tranny as well about a year ago.. should have kept it!
I'll call the guy that does the work and see what he wants to do with it. most likely I'll just take a 5 spd bellhousing since that's what I've got, and cut the end off to weld an adaptor plate onto it.
