  • Differences from a drift spec coilover vs anything else?

Maybe a dumb question but I picked up a set of D-Max "Drift Spec" coilovers a while ago and now that I am getting closer to getting my car complete I was wondering if these will suffice for grip driving? I mean I know they are a low end coilover but what other than the spring rate classifies them as a drift coilover? They are 32 way adjustable so I figured I could get a few different spring rates adn they could work? Or would I be better off selling them and getting something closer to a K&W or Koni setup?

I imagine they just charged more for putting a new sticker on the coilovers. I highly doubt they are changing the valving when they vary 100% from corner to corner on the average cheap set.

I'd sell them and piece together a Koni setup. With a little searching you can get a full set of Koni yellows and coilover sleeves for less than $800 or so.

Good deal thanks, maybe since my employer just became a master distributor for koni I could save a few bucks on them.

as far as i know, "drift" coilovers use much more compression than grip stuff. easier to break grip, smoother transitions, able to go lower without bottimg out, etc.

i know when i lower compression on my rears i get better rear grip in slaloms but drifting gets ****tier (more snappy)

That's probably would they SHOULD do - but whether a "distributor" like D-Max does anything is very very unlikely. There's a reason they use threaded coilover bodies - it's like the same valving for pretty much every damper they put out there.

Same coil difrent color (and sticker). But compaire spring rate. Have to remember those coil are normally made for stock weight car. we are using really much softer spring that what those normally come at factory.
