PSM F&R Lower Control Arms (To be released soon it seems)

I get bored every now and then and decide to visit some of the shop forums out there. Looks like PSM is about to release lower control arms for the S-chassis soon.

As long as the fix the reib it's all good. They mentioned they might in future.
I stil am not a fan of a stock sized ball joint taper that's been lengthened that much though.

Likely mild steel stock sized BJ shank extended out to 2" or more = not a good idea.

I'm not sure why companies go with the REIB design. It seems just as easy to use rod ends on the inner pivot, which is not 100% ideal, but it works much better in theory than putting the highest stressed part out there in bending. The rear I can maybe see it being ok(although 1st gear does put quite a huge load on stuff back there), but the front is inexcusable.

Consider the source and the target audience...

That's why real race teams always have to make their own everything, so few "pre fabbed" parts are worth their weight in scrap steel....

But everyone whines when a well designed part comes in at 2x the price of a shaudy OEM replipart out of tube and rod ends

So wait til the billet arms are available and Def and I get whined to death by the fan boys

In second year MechEng we had to design a front control arm almost identical to that PBM one shown above. Our lecturer made a point of throwing out any design which had a rod end in bending at the outer end.

We won the 'tender.' Mainly due to cost though.

While the engineering involved in their products may leave something to be desired, I have to admit its nice to see companies still developing parts for our 9-22 year old cars.

While I can't 'hate' on PSM's ambition, it really seems that they put little thought/testing into much of their items. It's sorta like your brother wiring a car with wire nuts, and seeing your car soldered together...you wanna smack him for not paing attention, but you can appreciate his DIY nature (or maybe that's just me?)

Also, it seems that PSM is 90% drift oriented/focused as well...

Just being "drift focused" doesn't mean it has to be an under-engineered and designed POS. That's what gets me so much about most of the stuff coming out for our cars - it's just throw together crap that's made in China and then all jazzed up to be the end all be all of our cars. Eventually people realize that it was a thrown together POS that probably only focused on one or two "design criteria" - and it's not that hot anymore.

In a way, I have more respect for the guys pedalling no-name Chinese stuff on eBay. At least they make no misrepresentations about how awesome their products are(most the time). It's just cheap junk that has its downfalls, and they generally don't sugar coat it and hide behind their "extensive development" that involved some doodles on a napkin at most.

It seems like the goals of that part are only to get as much angle as possible, while not binding. Thats it. The thing I don't understand is that they also make substantial claims, yet have no real proof or backup...and people are freakin ready to buy them before they've even been tested...nuts what some orange powdercoat can do....

You're killing me man! I used to live in Newburg (between Bethlehem and Nazareth) and I'd go buy Weyerbacher's right down at the brewery in Easton. I took the Yuengling tour in Pottsville twice but that's not so painful since I can buy "Black & Tan" in Georgia now, but the memory of Weyerbacher's just plain hurts.

Now to the real issue. Why do we spend so much money on these cars adding unsprung weight?

Never had a Weyerbacher - sounds good. I really miss Sweetwater from Atlanta... Sweetwater 420 MMMMMmmmmmmmm.... Hoppy goodness. Stone IPA reminds me of it, so I occasionally allow myself to partake.

As for the unsprung weight, pretty sure my car has less unsprung weight than stock at this point all around.

I just had a few sixers of 420 in Charlotte, introduced the guy I was staying with to it as well. Not too shabby!

I like how I don't own a 240 and I'm in a LCA thread discussing only beer.
