  • rear ball joints

every forums says b13 front ball joint from 89 sentra. moog 9633 fits the rear of the 240. and mine don't. these moog 9633 are 38mm and i need 39mm.

they are 60 from nissan and shucks has them for 55 each. F that. I'll buy the godspeed RLCA's for 165 before i spend 120 on ball joints.

    anyone else have this problem?

Not sure if you saw this thread on zilvia or not, Brian. If the B12 BJ is to small and the B13 BJ to big... I'd say just get new OEM arms or the godspeed arms...

I used the following part number: K9633

            Moog balljoint, ordered from www.rockauto.com

b12 sentra front lca ball joint.

            Good luck!

              "Rear;
No-one offers aftermarket rear ball-joints for either model. The S13's are 38.05mm and the S14's are 41.05mm. For the S13, a B12 (not B13) Sentra front ball joint is 38.15mm and fits nicely. For the S14, use S14 front ball joints in the rear."

Since this a ball joint question. What is the taper front and rear on S cars?

I know it's different on the front from S13 to S14, pretty sure the rear taper is different between them too.

I think the front S13 is 9 degrees(that's one side of the taper IIRC, so 18 deg included). That's from memory, so I could be wrong. I've got some stock FLCA I can measure the balljoints.

I looked this up and one time but didn't write it down

I believe most American cars are 7.15 degrees, commonly referred to as 7 degree or 1-1/2" per foot taper.

I believe the 240sx (and most Nissans) are 9.56 degrees, commonly referred to as 10 degree or 2" per foot taper.

I just did a quick check on an old S14 ball joint and came up with 2"/ft.

It could be 9.56 deg. Hard to get really accurate with calipers on a tapered surface over a short distance.

S14 Rear are different as well. I've yet to find ANY that will work.

No idea why Nissan goes all willy-nilly with their balljoint tapers. They standardize so much, but it seems like they missed the memo when it comes to that. It's not like a different ball joint taper offers a technical advantage or anything, you just have to design around it.

Yeah, and that taper is why it's such a PITA to find any kind of roll center correction methods for it.

I am wondering because I have been thinking about reaming the Z32 rear to a standard taper and using the tall ball joints that are readily available for stock cars. They sell the weld in mount for them so it seems like a small feat to weld that in and have a lower pivot point on the rear.

                              Has anybody done this?
