  • Vorshlag Upper Sping Perches: Well, no longer available through Vorshlag

Just got off the phone with Terry, owner of Vorshlag. Unfortunatly the sealed upper perches are no long available for sale individually, as they want to keep them in house to use with their camber plates. He's certainly not 'blind' to the product he has available, wihch is nice...but in the same respect wants to keep his companies 'secret' in house (hey, can't blame him there)

    However all is not lost

They are currently working on making a camber plate + perch setup, and he seemed genuinely interested in making a nice setup, as he even said he can make a better unit than the AST ones they currently have for sale.

So with that said, I'm going to be sending him an email later with the 8611/8610/Yellow shaft dimensions (which is what he was most concerned about, and I didn't have the information ahead of me), and he said they could realistically make these available before end of winter (awesome!). I'll also reference this forum, as it's a great 'example' of those interested and what we may potentially have in terms of sales. I dunno about you guys, but it wold be fantastic to work out a deal with these guys, as he seems like a generally nice guy.

Cody, I think some other members on here have ordered it from Roadracetech.com before. May be Vorshlag killed that too.

This is who I had gone through last year, great guys to work with. Hopefully they have some still in stock and don't have them drop shipped directly from Vorshlag.

I called RRT first, and they had said that they no longer sell them individually because Vorshlag wasn't to keen on the idea of their perches being out there. I found it odd that Terry said that he saw alot of returns, which is why he stopped doing them 'as is'.

That reminds me to take a good look at mine when I'm working on my suspension this winter. I put on a solid 2 track days (Yeah, I suck) and maybe 1000 street miles.

It wouldn't be hard to have some like the T3 tophats made with Torrington bearings. They're not sealed, but shouldn't be too much of a maintenance issue with them on top of the hat.

I agree. I found another source for the Vorshlag perch, so I'm going to purchase them from there. It's a shame Vorshlag doesn't want their perches out there, but I can undertand their reasoning. Business is business.

I agree about the camber plates being made with the bearings as well. I beleive The TechnoToys plates are what I'll be getting to complete my setup.

                  Hey CodyAce
i hope the guys at Vorshlag don't turn back on the idea of making camber/caster plates with the radial bearing in the spring perch; some months back i posted a thread on this forum as well as Zilvia for the same thing & at that time i had just received my AST 5100's & was looking for a camber/caster plate with a radial bearing in the spring perch; i pleaded with Vorshlag to make it, they told me to try & get people to step up; like a group buy kinda thing & everybody loved the idea until they started seeing what it would possiblly cost & nobody stepped up. At the moment i am running the Ground Control camber/caster plates which also have a axial bearing in the spring perch (so far so good).

I hope the Vorshlag people come through for you & don't start having second thoughts on making these for the S-chassis cars (they've done this before you'll talk to them one week & they are onboard then a few days later they say their is'nt enough interest)

                  Good Luck

Not sure why they "don't want it out there." The design really isn't 'rocket surgery' ya know, and they just use an off the shelf Chinese bearing, so nothing fancy there.

It sounds like an illogical decision from someone who doesn't understand business at all. How much in future earnings do you think you're risking by selling your product to more people that want to buy it vs. "holding back." It's just a few chunks of machined aluminum/steel and a cheap bearing... Ridiculous...

I'm not disagreeing with the business aspect of things...to me, it's silly 'not' to sell them, as I'm certain they have more profit then selling them with an E chassis setup for example. For example today, he could have made 70 bucks (lets assume 35 bucks profit)...instead he said no. Not sure about anyone else, but speciality car markets aren't 'thriving'. I woulda taken the cash and ran. That coulda paid 3 packaging guys for an hours worth of work ya know?

But for those (uninformed) it would be easy to see how their basic product could and would be copied. In the same aspect however, there are VERY few who are willing to even use them for s chassis car (lets face it, with 700-800 dollar new 'basic' coilovers available, very few are gonna want to spend 2000 on a GC/Koni setup)

The Vorshlag guys seem nice and all, but I've found this attitude to be common on people that are maybe a little "lacking" in some of the technical aspects of designing car parts. They think a basic part like this is something you need to guard, when in reality I think I could draft up a relatively similar part in about 15-20 mins in CATIA.

There just isn't much market for stuff like this, so they need to capitalize on what markets they can tap now, and try to grow new markets.

Or piss off the wrong guy with access to a machine shop and he'll just go to town with a similar/identical design.

I remembered when I first ordered the perches from them and posted it on here, a whole bunch of other guys here started ordering the perches. Oh well, on to something else I guess.

That's why I'm unsure as to why they were apprehensive about selling them individually. It would be one thing if it was on a (For example) premade product hat they compete with (like E30 parts), but they really don't offer a setup for Nissans (this side of the AST stuff).

Oh well :/ As stated before, it's not like this is a 'zomg wow one off part', it's something that can easily be replicated.
