When I bought the car several years ago it had a speed sensitive clunk, clunk, clunk in the rear end. The faster I drove the louder and faster the clunk was heard. The noise was present before and after the SR swap. I replaced all the subframe, diff and suspension bushings and nothing worked. This past weekend I installed my Koni suspension and figured I'd drop the rear sub frame again to tackle a few other things. While the subframe was out I decided to replace the rear axles. Woohoo. No more clunking.
So, if you encounter the same noise, it's coming from a worn joint of sorts in the axle(s).
