The parts list i have maintained is almost complete. But i had allready started pulling the motor apart. With the help of Mark Brett, who is a very capable Nissan master mechanic, i think this will be a great budget minded build that will get me back on the track in about 2 months from now. Have to be realistic about this stuff.
The head has been at Portflow for the last month, and i expect to have it back next week. We bored the stock sleeves to 86.5mm. The sleeves will be WPC treated along with internals and bearings. I was fortunate enough to get a set of Titanium intake valves made by a sponsor back in 08' just after i mothballed the car.
Other parts going in:
CP Pistons 86.5mm
Eagle rods (using oem crank)
HKS step 2 264 int, exh cams
Apexi Power FC (going MAP)
Borg Warner 7064 twinscroll .92 A/R
Full Race manifold
Full Race I.C.
Hypertune intake
Spec clutch mini twin
350z trans swap
Tomei solid lifters

More coming on the motor as it progresses.

I am finishing a custom widebody mold for the car, front and rear bumpers, fenders, sideskirts. Kognition dry carbon kouki hood, hatch, doors, carbon roof.
In 08' the car weighed 2,200 lb's. So i am looking to reduce it down to around 2,000.
I have new JIC FLT suspension that i bought back in 08' as well that i am kind of stuck with now. i am running very agressive spring rates. 12k front and 14k in the rear.
More later

Well, after what seems like a forever hiatus from racing.... i finally have the little rug rat in school after taking the time off to be a stay at home Daddy. Allthough i will miss those days for sure.

The Kognition S14 is a true Silvia that i picked up a few years back (04') when i lived in Los Angeles. Now have since moved to S.D. with no regrets. ;)

I ran the car in stock form aside from a few bolt on's like some mild JWT cams and such, but still ran the stock turbo at about 265hp. Back then, i didn't know **** about racing really. Only that i wanted to do it. So during my "hiatus" i had started developing wings and testing them with other team cars. And the rest became history after that. It was time well spent. I learned thru those teams, and what it really meant to be a functioning time attack team. You think a fast car and fast driver are all you need? Then you don't know squat about racing. Just an observational fact.
More later.

Had a chance to stop by after work today to look at the car. I didn't have my camera with me so I snapped a few photos with my cell. Sorry for the poor picture quality. The Body looks amazing just in primer compared to what it looked like before.

The next pictures I take of the car should be of the completed paint job. I can't wait to finally work on/drive my car again.

On a side not, I have started looking around for different AutoX events and found 3 events in November alone that I would like to attend. I do not think I will have the car done in time for the first event of the month, which is this Sunday. So I don't want to rush myself into getting the car ready for a autox event, so I'll take my time and wait until the next one which is the 8th of November.

10/23/2009

So after a few weeks of more frustration, I notified my friend on Sunday 10/18 that I would be taking the car home Friday 10/23, finished or not. I couldn't get a hold of him on Monday 10/19 so I took a drive to the shop and told him that I intended to finish the car myself no matter how bad my work turned out on the car, and we would work something out for the money which was paid in full. He didn't seem to happy, but I had reached the point where my patience had run out.

So I called him on Thursday to let him know to have my car out of the corner of the shop and clear of any cars that might be blocking it, so we wouldn't have trouble getting it out of the shop. He told me he had already completed most of the body work and planned to have it primered on Friday 10/23! Not only that, but that it would be done next week no matter what. He also went on to say there was no way he could let me take the car without him finishing it. He sounded like his old self, which was a really cool dude and a good friend. I think he finally realized that he was going mess up our friendship over this deal and that he was neglecting the time frame which I gave him.

Stopped by today and didn't see my car in the shop; took a walk to the paint booth and there she was, On with the pics.

Hey guys,

I know it's been a while since I have posted/blogged, so I figured I would post up what I picked up for myself on father's day(being my first father day as a dad and all).

I've had a steering wheel on my list of "items to get" but was in no hurry to pick one up, but I came across a deal that I just couldn't pass up on. I was looking for a Nardi Deep Corn 330mm and just happened to stumble across one the night before 6/20 and I emailed the seller, he didn't know which wheel he had 330mm/350mm. After describing the 330mm to him he confirmed that was what he had and that it was leather, however he did not have the "Nardi" horn button but he gave me one that he had that has "MPH" on it.

So after wheeling and dealing with him through email I headed out the door to go meet up with him and pick up the wheel. Now all I need to do is get the hub/qr/lock:rolleyes:

Also, I have the day off tomorrow/today:D so I'll be heading over to the body shop to snap some pics of the progress on the car.

UPDATE: 3/2/2009

Dropped the car off at the body shop on Monday, I am going to have the whole car repainted, jams and all. There were a few dings on the car here and there but they said nothing was major.

I am guessing that it will be done in about two weeks from now. So the next pictures I post will be of the car with the new paint job. I also ended up selling the Z32 Upright as well as going a different route for the suspension, which IMO is far better for me, for what I plan on doing with the car. I will also be doing a 5 lug swap on the car, I tried staying true and faithful to the 4 luggers, but wheel selection is just way too hard to come by.

So it looks like I will be rocking the 4x4 stock suspension stance as well as the same ugly Eagle wheels until I can take the plunge and cough up some money for wheels/tires, coilovers, 5 lug conversion.

Well it's been a few moths since my fisrt autox and it's that time again, when it starts back up.

No changes were made to the car other than installing the JDM Silvia front end. It is supposed to be lighter than the USDM front end by 30+lbs or so.

The night before the autox I checked all my fluids and went over the car to make sure everything was in proper working order. I woke up at around 6am the day of the autox and removed any/all items that would fly around in the car during the runs as well as my spare tire and jack and was out the door by arond 8pm(had to wait for friend to drive down from out of town)

We arrived to the autox just in time for the AM sign up and drivers meeting, but missed the walk-through. As soon as that was done we headed right onto the track to work the first run group as I was running in group 3.

Finally, it was my turn to autox after working the course.

My first run was my slowest of the day, due to the fact that I didn't get to walk to course because of arriving too late. I was taking it pretty slow and opening it up on the straights. I had a passenger with me as well.

The course was pretty open, I believe the designed it like that on purpose becuse it was supposed to rain and I am guessing they didn't want the workers picking up cones like crazy. In the end, the rain held off.

Time 70.697

Second run I was pretty happy with, I drove by myself on this one. I was noticing that when I was accelerating in the exit of the turns that my rear end was skipping around. Not really losing traction, but just hop-hop-hop.

When I finished the course I slowed down to pick up my time slip and I noticed quite a few people looking at me and smiling, I was thinking to myself, "what is everyone smiling at?, something can't be right" Sure enought I looked in my rear view mirror and my trunk was wide open, turned out that it had popped open at around 3/4 into the course. I am guessing that it happened from all of the hopping around of the rear end, that it just jarred the trunk open.

Time 68.131

Third run I was really cautious, as I didn't want my trunk to pop open again. Before the run I inspected it and made sure it was closed properly. I just didn't want to be "that guy who's trunk kept opening". Run was by myself again.

Time 70.084

Fourth and final run of the day I had a passenger with me. I was telling him I didn't know if I wanted to push it due to the trunk thing. He was like, "screw it, get your fastest time of the day". So, I told him I would go about 80% on the front of the course so I wouldn't have to drive the rest of the course with my trunk open or worry about getting "red flagged" and having to stop, I think I was just being a little too paranoid. I planned on going 80% on the front and 100% on the back. I felt like I was doing suprisingly good during this run, right at the end of the course there was a quick left that you could hit at about full speed in 2nd gear, followed by a hard right. My run had been flawless(so I think:D) up until this right, when I got to it, I kind of misjudged my speed going into it and when I was turning the car had some understeer, I pushed the clutch in and got through it without hitting a cone. I could have done it alot smoother if I would have just entered into the turn slower. Overall, I was really happy with the run.

Time 65.032

A friend of mine went with is 95 Integra RS w/ LS/VTEC, suspension, and azenis RT-615's and was running 62.xxx+ range, so I was pleased with what I was able to do in a stock car with a centerforce clutch and weather cracked tires.

Until next time,

Well I just got back from my trip to PSI up in Sonoma,CA. I left at around 7:45am this morning and got there at about 10am or so. When I got there the shop was closed, and I was freaking out because I was starting to think that I drove all that way for nothing. I tried calling numerous times and just getting voicemails. Finally I decided to leave them a voicemail before I left, and what do you know...., I got a call back and it was Bruce saying he would be there in about 15minutes to meet me there. I was relieved to say the least.

So after Bruce showed up we started talking about the direction that I would like to go with the car, I explained to him that I plan on autocrossing/dd and eventually to take the car to a trackday. He's was really cool guy and very knowledgeable.

The plan for now is to have all of the dampers put on the dyno, have the spring rates checked, a rebuild on one of the rears, and maybe, just maybe, have them sleeved.

Here is a pic of them before PSI and I will take an after pic once I get them back.
Suprisingly it came with the bumper beam, only bummer was that the hood it came with may not be the correct hood:eek: I knew that when I purchased the front end, that was the reason I got the deal I got. I had to take the gamble. I will be sure to post some pics once everything is on.

I was finally swayed to try out some nice Konis, so I've been working on putting that setup together. In front I'll be using Veilside180SX housings with Koni 8611s and Deluboz (eBay) camber plates, and in back I'm going to try using TC Kline G35 front dampers with Tein spherical bearing upper mounts. They have a lower mount very similar to the Z32 shocks, so they should be easy to use with Z32 spindles. Hopefully they're long enough to allow me to raise my car a smidge in back. The damper TCK used is a Koni 8242 series, which is another double adjustable twin tube, just like the 8611. I'm not sure on the exact differences, but for the price I got them (used), they should be good enough for a while while saving me some cash over a 8610 rear setup.

I'm going a little softer than I have on my Stance coilovers for the spring rates: 400 front (7.1 kg/mm) and 325 rear (5.8 kgm/mm). I figure with the better dampers it will be a much more comfortable ride, and I don't have enough time with school to improve my skill much and step up to R compounds, so for a few years I think I'll just run street tires and save some money. I like the balance my car has now with 8/6, but I plan on adding a Progress front sway and disconnecting the rear, so that's why I went down more on the front rates than the rears: front roll stiffness will be increasing and rear roll stiffness will be decreasing from the sway bar change. It's rough math, but it should keep the balance more or less the same while helping avoid rear wheel lift.

I don't have any good pics to update with since it's still freezing here and I havent worked on the car since summer. I hope to get some work done over spring break (end of March).
